Does this truth work?

Many people tend to choose a religion or belief system based on the question, "does this belief system work?" Another way of phrasing that question is usually, "will my entering into this belief system make me happy?"

That's understandable. We all want to be happy. And there's nothing wrong with that.

But someone being happy now isn't the goal of Christianity. The Bible claims to be true, real, historical events - that if believed, if Jesus is accepted as Lord and God - result in real forgiveness of sins and freedom from judgment and the promise of entering into God's presence when Jesus returns to this world.

There is happiness that results from that - BUT - that happiness doesn't necessarily prove Christianity is true - and it isn't necessarily more happiness that one would receive right now by believing something that's not true.

In other words, other religions can work. And as Paul said, "If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied"(1 Corinthians 15:19).

Christ claims to be real, historical, and returning - and he promises a happiness with him in the future that's worth waiting for.
