Israel was being decimated by the Assyrian Empire. Rather than trusting in God and his promises, they sent to Egypt to form a military-political alliance.
That got me thinking - what's my Egypt? What do I trust in rather than the Lord? What's my identity? For me - it's as the smart guy. I trust in my intelligence rather than God.
What's your Egypt?
Sometimes, too, I think I put faith in faith rather than faith in God, as a person. What I mean is, I think things will 'just work out.' Everything will be okay. Not because I'm personally putting my trust in Jesus - but just because I believe in ... luck? Fate? Some impersonal force? My own experience - that things usually DO work out?
Sometimes my Egypt is merely belief in belief. And I fail to trust in God.
Maybe you do, too.
Edit: I think - practical application - pray!
