Overlooked Parts of a Job in the OT

So here's an overlooked part of a Levite's job in the Old Testament. They were of course charged with taking care of the tabernacle and later the temple, and they were charged with preaching to the people - but also:

Why? The tabernacle was God's tent, home, or traveling palace. It was where he reigned from - and represented his presence. And his presence is what was saving his people.

In the same way, Jesus, our High Priest, by dying and rising from the dead, secured his presence - the presence of the Holy Spirit - for his covenant people - and has thus secured our eternal life with him. Click here...

I think there are some very practical outworkings of this in our own lives in Christ's Church as well - particularly in our public witness to Christ, our guarding the doctrine of Christ, our disciplining the members of Christ's Church for their good, the guarding of our families against the enemies of Christ... (I'm sure there are many more, but I need to get back to my Bible reading...)

Though it must be kept in mind that all those are done because Jesus has secured his reign in us individually and among us in the community that is Christ's Church.
