Starting Points...

You know, I was thinking about how we should present the Gospel tonight. And I really just had a thought. I mean, surely it's not wrong to seek comon ground, or to start with creation and explain everything....

But really, the good news is about a person: Jesus. It's about him being God. And it's about our Creator freely choosing to die in the place of his creations - for their being with him forever. And it's about him rising to dead and ruling the world forever.

That's good news. And that's the glory of God.

  1. That is true, the good news is about a person...but Genesis is essential, as well as the OT. If we tell a man God/Jesus does not want him to sin...they need to know what sin is and where it came from.

This is in the book of Genesis, which explains the origin of sin entering the world through Adam, continually getting worse, a flood that's purpose was to destroy a sinful world, and then the events leading up to the New covenant - where Jesus comes to bring us closer to God.

I hate leaving any issues out, because the Good news would not make sense without the knowledge of why the Good news is essential ;)

  2. Though it's true that an understanding of what sin is is essential, that does not mean that it has to be the starting point in a gospel presentation.

  3. I think that the world, the flesh, and the devil are having their way (in some fashion) with everyone.

No one is exempt from the crushing effects of the law. It is killing people, inside and out.

So the Good News (the gospel) will do it's work on people even if they do not yet have the big picture of the bible.

Hand Christ over to them. The rest will follow.
